When Should I Install Parental Monitoring Software?

When Should I Install Parental Monitoring Software? Now that cyber safety is being talked about more, and we are seeing more news reports about the dangers, Parents are wondering when they should install such software. From my experience, parents are only thinking about monitoring software when their children are around 12 years of age.

The reality is that children are discovering the Internet at an earlier age. The Internet is uncensored and as such, our children can stumble on the most disturbing material imaginable, unless we protect what they can view. Lets think about it. Television usually has some form of parental guidance messages from 9pm, if the program contains any objectionable material. Movies are classified R13, R16 and R18, as some material is unsuitable for younger viewers.

So why would we allow our children to use the Internet without some form of monitoring? I recommend installing some form of Parental Control software on any computer, from the age of 5 years old. That way you can be assured that the computer is sufficiently protected from unintentional objectionable material appearing on the screen. You can also monitor the activity taking place, using a simple web interface. Parents in Christchurch, New Zealand are feeling more comfortable once we install a choice of cyber safety software on their home computers, and teach them how to use the software.
